Monday June 21

 Monday June 21

Today is Indigenous Awareness Day that starts off a week of focus on building understanding and recognition of Canada's Indigenous People and to celebrate and acknowledge their contributions.

On Monday, June 21 the Literacy Team and the Indigenous Education Team will co-host a system-wide Read Aloud Event in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day. We are privileged to have Iikiinayookaa, principal of Piitoayis Family School, and Chief Superintendent Usih to come together to celebrate with the reading of a book written by Iikiinayookaa, titled, Omahkitapiksi Okakinikiiwa : Teaching from our Elders.

We discussed the lessons and messages that we learned through the sharing of this book and worked on a page in our visual journals.

Thank you to Marlene Yellow Horn for sharing her story with us and for helping us to connect to her Blackfoot culture.

Reminders:

Tomorrow is a special lunch for our grade 4 students to acknowledge their moving to TMC or other places for grade 5.  Mr. Kelly will be taking photos.  Lunch provided for those who responded to the email.

Sports Day for Grade 3/4 is on Thursday morning this week.

Coulee walk Friday morning.

Parents of grade 4 students - we have had our introductory lesson for the H.S. part of the health curriculum.  Please check in with your child to see what they learned and to answer any questions.  We will follow up with their Question Box questions tomorrow as well.
