 Thursday December, 17, 2020

We had a wonderful last school day of 2020 in our class today! It was calm as we worked on some poinsettia water colour art with Mr. Kelly and the results were stunning.  We loved how each student created something original and that reflected their unique way of looking at things!

We had fun in PE with Mr. Der doing some seasonal Just Dance moves to warm up and then playing a Santa Sleigh relay game.

In the afternoon we worked on our visual journals and adding in our cinquain poems to our art from The Wild Robot.  Later we watched a movie and enjoyed a snack together.

Thank you everyone for a great day!  Thank you as well to everyone who send lovely gifts and cards.  Mr. Kelly and Mrs. Zwack appreciate your kind words and generosity.

If your child was away yesterday and/or today and you would like to come and pick up anything tomorrow before 11:30 please email and let us know!

Please Read the information below.  It has also been sent via email!

See you in 2021!

Dear Kindness Grade 3 and 4 Parents,

We are sure that everyone is ready for a break and some rest and family time.  We thank you all so much for the amazing support you have given over these past few challenging months.  As we prepare for the upcoming break and for the week of online learning from Jan. 5 to 8th, we would like to share the following:

Each student will bring home a green duo-tang today.  Please put this in a safe place!  All schoolwork completed at home will go into the pages of this duo-tang and will be returned with your child for assessment the following Monday.

Inside the front cover of the duo tang are your student’s CBE ID number, their google account, and the password that works for both Iris and Google.

Mr. Kelly’s Google Meet code will always be kindck

Mrs. Zwack’s Google Meet Code will always be kindaz

We will send a schedule for our team meeting times home once it is finalized.  This is a general idea:

There was an email sent from the office that also outlines expectations regarding technology and participation/assignment completion.

All students should be able to get into the Google Classroom that we set up and practiced going into in October.  They sign in to their Google account and then click into the

“Kelly Zwack Kindness” classroom.   This is for both groups!

https://classroom.google.com/c/MTU1Njk2OTU4Nzk2

Epic Books will be available during the day over the holidays and during the week of online learning.  The class code is gyi2321

We encourage you to have your child practice signing in to their g-mail and to the google classroom and google meet over the holiday to ensure everything will work for them on Tuesday Jan. 5.  If you have any issues we can assist on Jan 4 but will be teaching right away and most of the day on the 5th so will not be able to troubleshoot at that time.

We have entered a few math items into Google Classroom where your child can have fun practicing basic addition and subtraction facts over the holidays.  We have been working hard on this at school and it would be a great way to review as well as helping practice connecting in the google classroom.

Please check your email on Sunday Jan. 3 just in case we have extra information to share before we start on the 5th!

Happy and safe holidays to everyone!                   Mr. Kelly and Mrs. Zwack

 We had a busy day.

2) We practice sorting our words for Words Their Way

3) We continues our addition strategies (Make Ten, Use Doubles, Regrouping)

The student's also began to download their animal research projects into Iris

Something to talk about:

When rolling two dice, why is 7 a frequent sum?

Reminders

Thursday is fun lunch and it is PJ Day

No school for students on Friday

Online Learning begins Jan. 5. Please ensure your child can sign in to Google classroom, Gmail and Iris on their own.

If you are looking for great gift ideas for your student this Christmas might we suggest a new "extra fine" black Sharpie and a few thin whiteboard markers?  The school provided ones are running low on ink and if students require a new one it will have to come from home.  Thank you!!

Monday Dec. 13, 2020

 Monday Dec. 13, 2020

Celebrations

1.  Today we worked with basic facts and combined that with learning about Line Plots in graphing.  We set up our own line plot on chart paper and then made a prediction about which "sums" would show up most often.  Explaining our thinking about this was pretty tricky!  We then rolled a pair of dice 30 times and plotted our results on the graph.  Tomorrow we will discuss our predictions and our results.

2.  In Social Studies Inquiry today we review our Survivor activity from a few weeks ago and clarified our understanding of NEEDS and WANTS.  We created a chart in our visual journal and wrote a definition for each in our own words.  We then listed 5 NEEDS all humans must have to. survive and then 5 personal WANTS that make our lives easier, more comfortable, more exciting or interesting.

Something to Talk About

Explain to your parents why you selected the 5 needs and 5 wants on your page.

 Thursday December 10

Celebrations

1.  We were so excited to do a gallery walk today so that we could celebrate the work that we have done as scientific researchers.  It was amazing to see the amazing work each person did and to take some time to learn from one another.

2.  We enjoyed making 3-D shapes from 2-D nets today!    It was a bit challenging but we did it!

Something to Talk About

How can you tell the difference between a prism and a pyramid?  Describe an example of each!

We had an amazing and very busy day!

Highlights of our day!

1. We met with our Elder Saa'kokoto virtually and he told us some stories about Hoodoo's.

2. We are on the last stage of our animal project! Over the last few weeks we have been building up our knowledge of animals. Today we put together all the research we have done in the last week and a half on our posters! They are looking amazing!

3. In PE we played handball!!

Ask me about what I learned from Elder Saa'kokoto!

Tomorrow is Crazy hat day!

Friday is my (Mrs. Derksen) last day with your kids until February! I have really enjoyed getting to know each and everyone one of them! I have learned so much from them all! I am looking forward to working with them again in the New Year!

Tuesday Dec. 8

 Tuesday December 8, 2020

We had an incredible day today!  There is so much learning still going on even though we are all excited about the break coming up very soon.

Highlights

1.  Mrs. Zwack's class read the lovely story Owl Moon as a model for personal narrative writing today.  Tomorrow, Mr. Kelly's class will do the same.  We learned that a personal narrative has the following characteristics:

·       a story where you are the main character

·       written using I  or  We “first person”

·       is focused on one main event, activity, experience

·       happens in one day

·       includes your reactions and feelings to what happened

      ·       has a lot of description and detail to make the reader feel like they were there with you

2.  We had a wonderful walk to the coulee this afternoon to reexamine habitats where our research animal might live.  We did some sketching from our animal's POV or Point of View which we will add to our research posters tomorrow.

Something to Talk About

In math today we learned about making "nets" for various 3-D objects using 2-D shapes.  This is a tricky concept to learn!  What was most challenging for you in math today?

Reminders

Tomorrow we will have a virtual visit with Sa 'akokoto to learn about the winter solstice

Thursday is Crazy Hat Day and Fun Snack

Mrs. Zwack's class will be filming their winter piece in music tomorrow so if you wish you may wear something festive!
